Located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Saturn Machine Knives has a rich history of innovation, growth and commitment to quality.

Here’s a look at our journey from a small start-up to a leading manufacturer of industrial knives.

2002
Founded
Saturn Machine Knives Ltd was founded by Nick Collinson and Simon Jackson. They started by purchasing their first milling machine, the Cincinnati V 750, which still operates on our factory floor today. The first blades manufactured were for the Vermeer BC150 and the Schliesing 230.
2002
Early Expansion
Within just three months, the business began to expand, leading to the investment in additional machinery, such as the Gockel G60 Grinder. Established our own manufacturing facility, moving into a 500 sq/ft unit and investing in manual machinery.
2006
Relocation and CNC Machinery
Relocated to larger premises and invested in CNC machinery and the first Gockel grinding machine.
2009
CAD/CAM Introduction
Introduced CAD/CAM software into the manufacturing process, enhancing precision and efficiency.
2014
Expansion to Larger Facility
Moved to a 4500 sq/ft facility and expanded manufacturing capacity with more CNC machinery.
2021
Membership to "Made in Britain"
Granted membership to the "Made in Britain" organization, reinforcing our commitment to quality and British manufacturing.

Growth, Innovations, and Technological Investments

Saturn Machine Knives has seen remarkable growth over the years, expanding from 2 staff members to 30. We have grown from one machine to seventeen, including 2 CNC lathes, 10 CNC vertical machining centres and 5 knife grinders. Recently, we invested significantly in new machines to continue meeting the high standards our customers expect.

Our commitment to innovation and technology has been pivotal in our success. The introduction of CAD/CAM software has streamlined our production processes, enhancing precision and efficiency. Additionally, our use of vacuum heat treatment and specialized Tuftech specifications ensures our blades are durable and high-performing. These investments and advancements have allowed us to maintain high product standards and adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.

Saturn Machine Knives is dedicated to supporting both the local community and the broader industry. As a member of the "Made in Sheffield" and "Made in Britain" brands, we promote local manufacturing excellence. Our high-quality, affordable aftermarket blades provide essential tools for various industries, including woodworking, recycling, and sawmills, benefiting over 22,000 customers.
