A Lifelong Pursuit

Our journey began back in 2000, where co-founder Simon Jackson was struck by the power of precision engineering machines:

'The year was 2000, and I was 29 years young. By then, I already had a decade of engineering experience under my belt when I stepped into Sheffield Forgemasters, a place steeped in history and innovation. My first role? A manual turner on one of the most impressive machines I’d ever seen—a twin turret lathe stretching 120 meters. This wasn’t just any machine; it had a legacy. Back in the ‘90s, it was used to manufacture the infamous Iraqi Super Gun—long before my time, but I worked alongside the guys who machined it. The stories were legendary; some even got read their rights and interviewed about their involvement!

Not long after, I was moved up to the CNC lathe department, running a Farrel roughing/finishing machine—a beast of a machine that handled jobs weighing over 100 tonnes. The sheer size of the work made every setup an adrenaline rush—watching massive components carefully settle into the jaws and centers was enough to make the hairs on your neck stand up.'

A Legacy of Craftsmanship

The company then began in 2002, when Saturn Machine Knives Ltd was founded by Nick Collinson and Simon Jackson. They started by purchasing their first milling machine, the Cincinnati V 750, which still operates on our factory floor today. The first blades manufactured were for the Vermeer BC150 and the Schliesing 230. Within just three months, the business began expanding, leading to investments in additional machinery such as the Gockel G60 Grinder and the establishment of our own manufacturing facility.

Over the years, we have continued to grow and innovate:

  • 2006: Relocated to larger premises and invested in CNC machinery and the first Gockel grinding machine.

  • 2009: Introduced CAD/CAM software into the manufacturing process, enhancing precision and efficiency.

  • 2014: Expanded to a 4500 sq/ft facility, increasing manufacturing capacity with more CNC machinery.

  • 2021: Granted membership to the "Made in Britain" organisation, reinforcing our commitment to quality and British manufacturing.
